Real systems integration is more than just tying a couple of dry
contacts together and calling it “integrated”.

“Integration” is a buzz word that is thrown around lightly in this
industry. Real systems integration is more than just tying a couple
of dry contacts together and calling it “integrated”. Your security
and access systems should be treated like every other enterprise
software running in your facility: Databases should talk to each
other to minimize data entry, and different departments should be
involved with the design and administration of your system to ensure
that workflow is logical and the rules are enforced.
For example: As HR enters a new employee into their CRM platform,
the access control software imports the data to the appropriate
fields and the new employee’s access rights are assigned. Card
transactions on specified readers generate “in” and “out”
transactions that are sent to the Time and Attendance software which
applies payroll rules and exports the data to the payroll platform.
And users’ cards are tied to Windows logon credentials, limiting IT
help desk calls for password administration.
A well designed system can improve efficiency and save money by
cutting the human time required to administer multiple, disjointed
systems.
